Snake Behaviour and Snake Bite Treatment
Snake Behaviour and Snake Bite Treatment Course  25 May, 2025 Snakes are a hazard in the Australian bush and as walkers we should be prepared for an encounter. On Sunday morning, 25 May, UBMBC will conduct a two hour snake behaviour and snake bite treatment course at Pulse First Aid Hazelbrook. We begin with a presentation by Neville Burns renown herpetologist and local snake catcher.  Neville has fascinating stories of snake incidents. He will explain what to do if you encounter a snake and what to do if someone is bitten. Live snakes (safely contained in plastic boxes) will be present for people who would like a closer look. Emergency nurse, Frances Davidson, will demonstrate first aid treatment  (pressure immobilization) and the method of bandaging a snake bite. Members attending will receive a snake bandage (with rectangles that expand to squares when the correct pressure is applied). Frances will supervise club members applying the bandage. Cost $30. Great value and you get your own snake bandage. In the afternoon there be will be an optional, grade three walk to Terrace Falls at Hazelbrook. Book in for the Snake course or the course and walk.

Seven pitches upto 45m, one of these involves prusiking up 12 meters so that we can get back to the cars a shorter way than the usual exit. Participants need to have prior experience with mechanical ascenders. Mostly dry, however koombanda has two 10m swims and a short wade.
