4 - Day Walk
Mount Banks Upper Traverse
Mount Banks High Traverse Walk starts from the Mount Banks car park/ picnic ground (/ toilets) and heads up along the tourist route.to the trig point. It cuts across to the Western Wall and 500m abseil point and continues south along the cliff edge for a couple of km. This requires a little light scrambling and has magnificent views of the valley. It then arrives at an end to the ridge, and we drop down a gully to the east to join the Mount Banks Cycle Track. After a few 100m south along the track it arrives at Water Tank Lookout. This will be the lunch point, after which we follow the cycle track back to the car park. This is a relatively straightforward walk with great views. It will last 5 to 6 hrs and I recommend taking a minimum of 2 litres water/ electrolyte.

Sun - 24-Nov-2024
3 - Canyon
Sleeper Canyon
This activity is targeted at grade 2 and grade 3 canyoners, and preference will be given to those who attended the recent Ropes Practice Day. There will be a ratio of 3 highly experienced canyoners to 5 participants, and this will provide you with ample opportunities to observe club practice and to ask questions. Sleeper is a beautiful, compact canyon which presents a variety of abseiling challenges that would typically be encountered in bigger canyons, but there are no drops greater than 15m. You will experience a range of rigging, rope management, and belay techniques that you will encounter on other club technical canyoning activities. You will get wet - there are compulsory short swims and wades – so you may choose to wear a wetsuit.

3 - Abseiling
Why Don't We Do It In The Road? (or Serendipity) Canyon
This is really 2 short canyons joined by a very pleasant 45 min creek walk through eucalypt forest. The upper section is relatively dry but the lower section is wet with abseils in waterfalls and swims. The water will still be chilly so a good wetsuit is recommended. There are 6 abseils with the lower ones into deep pools. At the end there is a great little glow worm grotto and then a short swim up the Wollangambe to the exit track. I have used the original name for this canyon (named after the Beatles song). At some stage it got changed, presumably because it is used by tour companies and Serendipity sounded better? This canyon is rated for experienced canyoners (grade 3).

Mon - 11-Nov-2024
3 - Day Walk
Indigenous art on the Eastern side of Yengo National Park
This walk (appropriately on Remembrance Day!) will visit some ancient rock art. I have not visited the site before, but am hoping it will be easy to find and in reasonably good condition - no guarantees! My understanding is that there is a plaque at the site and there has been some excavation by anthropologists but the site is otherwise relatively undisturbed. The walk will probably only be practical for members who live in central or Northern Sydney or the Central Coast. Even then, it will be a lot of driving and not much walking. The drive is about 1 hour 45 minutes from Sydney CBD - I could collect walkers at Sydney Central station or Hornsby or Peats Ridge. The walk follows a fire trail and then what I expect to be a slightly overgrown track. The total distance out and back will be about 6 km so will only take a couple of hours.

Sat - 09-Nov-2024
5 H - Day Walk
Little Crater Ridge
We will explore some of the country on the southern side of Erskine Creek. Starting at Pisgah Rock, we will make our way to the junction of Erskine and Lincoln creeks before making the "exhilarating" climb up the narrow ridge directly opposite. Once up top we will carry along the cliff edge, taking in the views, before joining Little Crater Ridge proper. Our return route to Erskine Creek will be the ridge on the northern side of Big Crater, where we will stop part way down to ponder the who, why and when of an ancient mystery cairn and stone arrangements. Return to road via Jack Evans track. About 9.5 Kilometers, mostly off track. Less if we can leave a car at the top of Jack Evans. Will involve some rock scrambling with some exposure.

4 - Day Walk
Redledge to Rockpile pass
This walk is back on the program. Last time it was listed there was reports of a land slip. This has been investigated and does not affect the route. So....walk out on narrow neck road from the locked gate to Redledge Pass. We do not descend the pass but follow the ledge around to Rock Pile pass where a 4 meter climb is required (tape supplied) and a shuffle along a narrow exposed ledge. You need to be confident with the exposure on the track and at the climb site. Great views of Megalong. Then skirt back through the edge of Coral swamp to Narrow neck road. Probably 5-6 hrs duration.Iif time permits we may take part of the original walkers track to Diamond falls area, then climb up the hill to the paked cars.

4 - Day Walk
Rookery Nook Sunday 13th Oct 2024
Rookery Nook is a pleasant 4-5 hr walk. It starts at the Fortress Ridge car park along Mount Hay Road. We head due west for about 1km along the ridge and turn north for a few hundred metres to a lookout up the Grose Valley. We retrace our steps south and follow an unnamed creek towards Katoomba Creek. We join a ledge north about halfway up the cliff line and continue to an old camping spot with logbook and some interesting photocopies of newspaper articles about nearby Arethusa Falls. Then we make a short, tape assisted descent to a lower ledge. Exposure is very limited. We follow the ledge for a couple of hundred metres. It gradually thins out and there is a bit of exposure along the last 20 metres, but that does not have to be walked. From here there is a stunning view backwards to Arethusa Falls and forwards up the Grose Valley. Then we retrace our steps to the car park

Mid Mountains Wander
From the Linden Ridge Fire Trail we negotiate a side ridge down to Woodford Creek before climbing up the other side to join another ridge that will take us to Blue Mountain and the start of the Lawson Ridge Fire Trail. The first ridge is scrubby in places but not difficult. I have nick named it “Golf Ball Ridge” for reasons that will become obvious. The second ridge is more open and pleasant to walk along and Woodford creek is a delight. There are lower mountains views to be had in places and the boronia and other wild flowers should be on display. We will need to do a car shuffle.
