- Mares Forest Creek involves swimming through a spectacular gorge with turquoise water and Limestone walls. It is really unique. It is a two day camping trip and campsites at Wombeyan Caves must be booked. 14 Feb Drive to Wombeyan Caves via the Oberon Taralga Road. Set up camp. Do a short bushwalk or visit a cave. (fees apply) 15 Feb Pack up camp. Visit a cave (fees apply) Swim and wade up Mares Creek. Members must be competent swimmers, able to float and tread water. Wetsuits and floatation devices are optional. There an excellent swimming hole near our lunch spot. We reverse the canyon downstream then drive home. Some members may like to drive down on 15 Feb just for Mares Creek. Let me know when you apply
