Description
Although it's not a long distance (about 7km's) there is a 300m ascent at the end, with a bit of scrambling up Devils Hole. The walk is worth it though, with great variety, from cliff top views to creeks & rainforest in Nellies Glen, some easy walking on the Six Foot Track then the interesting climb out. There are a few small creek crossings, which are usually managed without wet feet. The walk begins on the cliff track off Farnells Rd, Katoomba. The track winds around the cliff line with a couple of good lookouts on the way. This part of the walk is undulating track, crossing creeks a few times over bridges. The track then joins the Six Foot Track which narrows for the steep descent into Nellies Glen. There are many steps & it's quite slippery. The track levels out below Bonnie Doon Falls; eventually the track widens to the easy walking section (about 2km's) of the Six Foot Track. We then follow the Water Board Road to the start of the Devils Hole track. This scenic section of track climbs gradually to the Devils Hole exit. The track is unclear just before Devils Hole but it's not hard to follow the cairns. Devils Hole is a steep climb for about 5-10 minutes. There's no track, you scramble up the rocks, which are usually wet. It's not particulary difficult or dangerous but does take a bit of effort. At the top there are great views to Narrow Neck & it's not far to Cliff Drive & the end of the walk. Map: Katoomba
