Description
A Two Day Practice Session for members who have not abseiled previously. Members must have been with UBMBC for 6 months and completed three bush walks and a non-abseil canyon (eg Grand Canyon, Du Faurs Canyon, Nobles Canyon) with the club. The canyoning waiver on the club website must be checked. Instruction and practice will be led by Canyon Leaders and Advanced canyoners from UBMBC. Day One will be held on Sunday 6 Oct at Mt York. It will cover abseiling equipment, ropes, anchors, safety, abseiling technique, belay, knots, tie offs, prusiking and self rescue. Skills will be practised and participants assessed. Day Two will be held on Saturday 12 Oct at a location to be decided. It will involve revision of Day One then a local canyon led by Onni Elliot. Members will need their own equipment - helmet, harness, descender, carabiners, safety lanyard and prusik cords. [Note the 1E grade assigned to this activity is a canyon grade, not a walk grade.]
